Education- Then and Now - Continuation

Another difference in Education Then and Now (see previous blog posting):

When i was growing up, i never heard of "flowchart" until my basic Computer class in high school.

And now, Bree's homework is to create a flowchart - about simple everyday-life things. It's due on Thursday. We have to buy a poster board today (in the Philippines, we called it "cartolina" - see more below).

I was thinking that she should make a flowchart on: How to Make an Ice Cream Sundae. Or How to sharpen a pencil (i googled some "how-to's" and i found this pencil-sharpening direction). Or how to make-up your bed in the morning. Or how to prepare cereals for breakfast.

I think we'll do the ice cream sundae flowchart. It's the most interesting one i've thought of so far. (of course, i will be doing our draft using Visio - hehe)

Any flowchart topic suggestions from my avid readers??? Please post them in the comment section.

P.S.
Then === Now
bond paper === paper or copy paper
oslo paper === ewan ko, eggshell paper yata
pentel pen === marker
ballpen === pen

Bree's Birthday part 2

Sleepover Part 2 with Bree's cousins: Lori, Tamara and Jared.

They were not as WILD as the first group - I believe partly because the big kids (Lori and Bree) dominate the little kids (Jared and Tamara). The little ones just naturally follow the big ones. They played twister, pretend-school and pretend-restaurant.

I would have to say that Bree's 9th birthday (her last single-digit birthday) was a double success. She had fun. And she received great gifts (thanks everyone!)!

And since that was a long weekend (Prez' Day), i had all-day Monday to recuperate.

p.s. Next year, we will be celebrating her first double-digit birthday.

Bree's Birthday - Sleepover with Friends

Sleepover part 1: February 17-18, 2006

(L-R) Kristina, Sabrina, Sarah C, Amanda and Sarah V.

All night long, it seems the girl were doing a fashion show. They changed clothes (from Bree's closet) at least half a dozen times. That was a cold night, but as you can see they were wearing "summer" clothes.

I heard them talk about boys...hmmm, too young.

I heard them talk about celebrities (Hilary, Lindsay, Britney, Beyonce, etc.).

I heard them gossip about school (teachers who left, teachers they like, classmates who are leaving, etc.).

They played Twister. And "house" - they were getting married, and then they were having a baby. It was funny - not funny haha, but funny weird - watching them.

They didn't sleep until 12 midnight (some until 2am). Oh what a night!

A Day at Knotts

Knotts Berry Farm had a special during the month of January. Just bring in some canned goods in exchange for way-discounted tickets. So, off we went with our canned corn and canned bbq beans and canned chicken broth (sorry, that's all we have in our pantry). Bree and I went to Knotts with Ninang Framie and Tita Grace a couple of weeks ago.

Here's Bree with Snoopy, at the Camp Snoopy section of the park.

But let me tell you- Knotts is definitely NOT Disneyland. Disneyland is certainly a happier place, in fact it's the happiest place on earth (right after Vegas). Knotts is very laidback, no rush, lines are not as long, and the park is much much smaller than Disneyland. But for discounted tickets, it was definitely worth the trip. We sure had fun (esp. Mrs Knott's famous fried chicken and biscuits - the highlight of our day)!

Scout's Honor

Bree has been a girl scout since she was in Kindergarten. Started as a Daisy scout. This is her third and last year as a brownie. In the fall, she will be a Junior Scout.

She loves being a girl scout because she has fun with her troop. Not all members of the troop go to St. Robert Bellarmine. Some come from other Burbank unified schools. She's been to 2 camping trips (of course, with mommy to chaperone her), one sleepover at Sea World, numerous weekend game and skill events, 2 horseback riding sessions, 2 skating sessions, one dodger game, and lots of other activities.

It's cookie selling time! So, be prepared with your cookie orders. Everyone is encouraged (read: forced) to order.
