Halloween 2006

As previously mentioned in this blog, Bree chose to be a witch this Halloween. Actually, it's called Jazzy Witch.

Here's a picture of her at the Burbank Media Center mall, where we went trick-or-treating after school. We went thru the whole 2nd and 3rd floor of the mall, but not every store gave out candies. But Bree did OK.

We went home at around 5:30pm and gave out candies to our neighborhood trick-or-treaters. We didn't get a lot, maybe just around 10 kids came and asked for treats.

It was a good Halloween though. Not too hectic for me.

A Reading According to Oprah

.
She's Come Undone
by Wally Lamb

I decided to read this because it's from Oprah's book club. This is the description from amazon.com:
Dolores is a class-A emotional basket case, and why shouldn't she be? She's suffered almost every abuse and familial travesty that exists: Her father is a violent, philandering liar; her mother has the mental and emotional consistency of Jell-O; and the men in her life are probably the gender's most loathsome creatures. But Dolores is no quitter; she battles her woes with a sense of self-indulgence and gluttony rivaled only by Henry VIII. Hers is a dysfunctional Wonder Years, where growing up in the golden era was anything but ideal. While most kids her age were dealing with the monumental importance of the latest Beatles single and how college turned an older sibling into a long-haired hippie, Dolores was grappling with such issues as divorce, rape, and mental illness. Whether you're disgusted by her antics or moved by her pathetic ploys, you'll be drawn into Dolores's warped, hilarious, Mallomar-munching world.

I've been reading this, i think, since mid-Sept. It's a long book, and a very long story - the lifestory of Dolores from 4 years to 40. It's not really a bad book, but i wouldn't say it's a page-turner either.

The reason i bought this book is because it had Oprah's stamp on the front-cover. I shoulda known better. She picks weird stuff. Look what happened to "A Million Little Pieces" by James Frey.

For those people that know me (and that's pretty much almost all my blog-readers), i love Sidney Sheldon books. But i just read his latest one, which is his memoirs. My other favorite is Dan Brown, but i've read all his 4 books, and anxiously waiting for the next one.

Other authors that i like are the usual bestsellers like John Grisham, Michael Crichton and John Saul. I wish Arthur Hailey was still alive, i adore his novels, too.

So, i thought i'd rely on Oprah to tell me what to read. I chose She's Come Undone (20% off at Target) and now i'm not so sure, Oprah... would i trust you again?

Pumpkin Patch

It's almost Halloween time! Sabrina hasn't picked out a costume yet. She couldn't decide: Lady Liberty (as in Statue of Liberty) or Cleopatra (very nice, but expensive costume) or Southern Belle (gown ala Maverick/Mel Gibson movie) or Gothic Geisha (very scary-looking japanese girl).

She will have to decide soon. We are running out of time.

Here's a picture of Bree at a pumpkin patch (she was with Ninang and Tita Grace).
